In this page on there are a number of photos and information on the early development of Amateur Radio Station GI0KVQ.

As mentioned on the previous page I was first licenced as GI0KVQ in January 1989. The first antenna was a 10 meter vertical and after a few weeks two local stations GI0KOW and GI0SAP, came and helped errect an antenna for 15, & 40 meters.

Below are a few pictures of my first real tower. It was errected in the late spring of 1989, and helped by GI3OQR a multiband inverted V was installed. The antenna was fed by open wire feeder and each leg of the antenna was 132 ft. The apex was at around 70ft.

As usual my dad was there to help and between us we got the tower errected in a day.

The finished tower and antenna in the summer of 1989. It allowed me to operate on all of the bands from 160 through to 10 meters.

My first muiltiband transciever was a used FT101ZD. I continued to use the 101 for around 2 years, until I changed to a solid state Kenwood TS 430 S

Below is picture taken a few years later about showing the a new mast and on it was attached my first beam a 3 element tribander called the DX penetrator. When the mast was at its full height it was around 50 feet high.

The antenna system remained for some time as above and then during 1992 another tower this time a 60ft crank up tower was installed. Below is a picture of the tower about to be mounted on the base post. In the background is the 3 element tribander.
